Days 8 to 12

Sorry for the late post but this past weekend Parker was in a baseball tournament, so didn't get much time to do the photos or post to the blog. But it was our final sleepy week (I am using positive thinking), so not much to post. More electrical, venting, digging and re-arranging, and then finally some drywall - YAY!

Here is the remains of our pantry. We only asked for new (matching doors) but the contractor said it would be just easier to start over with new everything. We agreed since it would not cost us any more money.

We bought a bag of Roxul insulation and added extra insulation to the space in the floor between the joists (sill plate header, as I've learned).  Might as well since the walls are open. There was insulation but it had thinned and sagged over the years (sounds familiar).

This is all our wires ready for connecting to the breaker panel.

Eric and I thought this was cool. These foot prints are on the back of our living room wall - from the original building of the house back in 1964! I hope they stay there for another 50 years!

This was the cold air vent in the wall we took down. Now reverted to floor...

This is the remains of our bathroom - so much wall was damaged they just took out a big square. Maddy walked straight through the wall!

This is our new vent outside the kitchen for the new range hood exhaust.

In our contract we had arranged to have any "unsatisfactory" insulation replaced on exterior walls. Once the walls were opened up, I wondered what qualifies as "unsatisfactory". So I asked, and the insulation on these walls was removed and replaced with new. This is the old...
 and the new...

Last day of the week, they began re-constructing - finally!
This is part of our new ceiling drywall.

Including replacing the hole they made in Adam's bedroom.
Good thing you can't see much more of Adam's room - it sure is messy!
Kind of reminds me when Carrie lived here... :-)

Must have been a busy day this day! 2 vans...

Quite the story here. Worker Dave had Eric convinced he would have to rip open the walls on our finished side of the basement to find the "manifold". It was going to be our weekend project. I learned the manifold is the spaghetti thing where the natural gas comes into the house and divides to feed anything using natural gas - furnace, hot water heater, fireplaces and soon to be gas stove. Eric was going to review the photos to see where it was before ripping the basement apart. I said - we would not have covered up such an important 'thing'. Regardless we had to clean out "stuff" from beside the furnace so they could feed the natural gas lines to the stove.  Voila! The manifold was right there - it was just a bit dark and crowded there to see it before. No ripping up  of our basement and temporary kitchen. Phew!
