Eric painted the ceilings including the front hallway - we suspect we have never painted them before! Not much different in a quick glance, but Eric had no trouble telling the painted areas from the unpainted areas. The white is the new paint.
Eric went on to paint the unfinished ceilings in the kitchen - two coats. Then he moved on to two coats of finish paint in the kitchen. We've decided to stop calling it the "kitchen and dining room" since it really is only one room now. You will see his painting talent in the pictures below. As we've mentioned before - the kitchen is painted in a "Paper Mache" colour.
The workers returned on Monday to prepare for a messy and stinky week. The flooring was sanded and wiped down ready for staining the next day. The floor below is a bit damp from being damp mopped.
Here is the subfloor where the bathroom and back hallway will be tiled.
Same thing in the front hall and closet.
Here is the kitchen dry and ready for staining. Notice the new wall colour (thank you Eric).
Here is our newly stained floor (not sealed) and the nice LEVEL transition between the hardwood and the foyer tiles. This was something I was particular about to our contractor. Since it was all new I wanted to not start off with a raised transition piece. Seems I got my wish!
This shows a nice view of our tiled front hallway, the finished staircase (Adam's project) and our newly stained floors. Looks like the match will be excellent!
Now for the stinky part - sealing the hardwood. Next two photos are of our still very wet floors. They will not stay this shiny - they are just wet.
This is our current status - fans blowing stinky air around and trying to speed the drying process. It has been very humid so it is taking a bit longer than expected.
We are back in our house and own beds but have a day or two more of stinky air to deal with. We also have to go outside through the garage to get between the upstairs (bedrooms) and the basement (temporary kitchen). This is so we stay off the drying hardwood sealing process as much as possible. It could be worse - it might be snowing or raining as well - so we must be thankful for this at least.
Stay tuned for next weekend!
